Motion: Yeo Wan Ling on artificial intelligence transition with no jobless growth

18:52 Min

Job redesign is critical in the AI transition - to re-engineer existing jobs, create new job types and support workers as AI reshapes job longevity, said MP Yeo Wan Ling. Consulting workers to really understand what they do must lie at the heart of this, she said in parliament on Wednesday (May 6). Ms Yeo urged the government to fund the systematic study and mapping of job roles and workflows, as well as sectoral AI uplift plans for specific industries to ensure that workers are involved in helping to drive change. She said leading companies or "queen bees" should also share their success stories and spearhead their sectors. Meanwhile NTUC, with its ground networks, can be the “connective tissue” of the transition, she added.
