Motion: Azhar Othman on an economy of the future that works for all
Do not break what is already working and double down on what makes Singapore unique, said NMP Azhar Othman. Speaking in parliament on Wednesday (Aug 5), he highlighted the need to work together to achieve an ecosystem of support, tackle the challenges ahead and devise a set of common strategies to ensure that Singapore progresses and succeeds. One key thrust is trade as Singapore’s lifeblood in a protectionist world. He stressed the need for Singapore to expand its network of free trade agreements and become a global conduit. Singapore should also work to become a “hub of hubs”, as its greatest advantage is its ability to be “everything to everyone”.
