Motion: Fadli Fawzi on an economy of the future that works for all
A robust safety net will help workers, especially those who are displaced, to pursue retraining and reskilling opportunities without anxiety, said Workers’ Party MP Fadli Fawzi. He called for mandatory retrenchment benefits and a universal redundancy insurance scheme. For workers who wish to take postgraduate studies, he suggested introducing interest-free education loans and allowing use of the CPF Education Loan Scheme. Meanwhile, the Skills and Workforce Development Agency (SWDA) should be consolidated into a one-stop shop for upskilling and employment, with dedicated case workers, he said. It should also publish outcome data so that workers can assess the effectiveness of programmes and providers. Mr Fadli spoke in parliament on Wednesday (Aug 5).
