Motion: Cai Yinzhou on securing Singapore’s food future
The survival of Singapore’s local fisheries is integral to the country’s food resilience, said MP Cai Yinzhou. It is not only a line of defence in the ability to feed its people, but also a means of preserving and passing on aquaculture expertise and experience, he said in parliament on Wednesday (Sep 9). He urged the government to strengthen support in four areas - help fish farmers process their produce at value and secure reliable buyers, ensure that research, technology and training are effectively applied on farms, track local seafood production and self-sufficiency more clearly, and raise consumer awareness and confidence in locally farmed fish.
