Motion: Lee Hui Ying on securing Singapore’s food future
Singapore can do more with its large amount of excess food to bolster food resilience, said MP Lee Hui Ying. She made three proposals in parliament on Wednesday (Sep 9). First, build on the Good Samaritan Food Donation Act to increase donations of good food, including items past their quality date mark which are still safe to eat. Second, develop a diverse food waste management industry, possibly with special zones that have lower lease rates tied to food security and waste reduction outcomes. Third, promote a culture of community sharing, such as by setting up a nationwide framework for community fridges, which are currently not formally managed.
