A more integrated regulatory structure can strengthen Singapore's healthcare system, said NMP Kuah Boon Theng. Implementation of an institutional redesign of this scale must be carried out in a manner that preserves continuity and clarity in terms of legal duties and obligations, professional independence and timely service, she said. Speaking in parliament on Wednesday (Sep 9), she stressed the need for the Health Sciences Authority to be provided with adequate resources for its expanded mandate. She wanted to know what steps have and will be taken to ensure a smooth transition of regulatory functions and minimise disruptions.
