Foo Cexiang on workplace protections for NSmen

03:36 Min

NSmen are protected under the Tripartite Guidelines on Fair Employment Practices. The Enlistment Act also sets out statutory duties for employers to ensure that National Service (NS) obligations are not a liability for workers. The Ministry of Defence has not had to pursue formal enforcement action under those provisions. The authorities received three workplace discrimination complaints related to NS obligations between 2024 and 2025. Legislation, including the Workplace Fairness Act, may be reviewed if there is a significant increase in such cases. Minister of State for Manpower Foo Cexiang said this in parliament on Wednesday (Sep 9) in reply to an MP’s questions.
