Debate on President’s speech: Hany Soh on transforming Singapore's North into ‘Uptown North’
Northern Singapore is “not ulu” as planned developments will transform the area into a modern and vibrant regional centre, said MP Hany Soh. Speaking in parliament on Friday (Sep 26), she listed the projects, such as the new RTS Link and major housing developments, that are on the way. She proposed transforming the North even further. With the Singapore Sports School moving to Kallang, she told the House that many residents feel it would be a pity if the site is used for another housing project. Instead, try to retain as many of its state-of-the-art facilities as possible and convert into it into a recreational hub for residents, she said. Ms Soh added that one resident had asked: "If we have a Downtown East in Singapore, why can't we have Uptown North here?"
