Sharael Taha wraps up debate on President’s speech
MP Sharael Taha wrapped up the five-day debate on the President’s speech in parliament on Friday (Sep 26). Eighty-one MPs had spoken in support of the motion he moved on Sep 22, including Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and 32 newly elected MPs delivering their maiden speeches in the House. Mr Sharael said there had been collective agreement on the need for fundamental transformations to meet the scale of challenges Singapore faces; while at the same time, not just not leaving anyone behind, but ensuring everyone has the chance to move up and ahead. He added that he was “heartened by the depth of conviction and clarity of purpose” in the speeches, reflecting a “collective resolve to improve the lives of Singaporeans and advance the progress of (the) nation as one united people”.
