Committee of Supply 2026 debate, Day 2: Joan Pereira on exploring opportunities in emerging regions

03:08 Min

With shifting supply chains and new growth poles, emerging regions such as Africa, Latin America and the Middle East will be critical to Singapore's long-term resilience, said MP Joan Pereira in parliament on Friday (Feb 27). She said the government can and must play a bigger role in helping Singaporeans venture confidently to these frontiers. It should resource new and existing missions as active economic enablers; expand scholarships, internships and mid-career attachments in these places; and work with business chambers, unions, universities and the media to highlight success stories of Singaporeans who have taken the leap.
