06:44 Min

In his closing speech on the motion he had moved on advancing mental health in Singapore, MP Wan Rizal noted that 31 members of the House took part in the debate in Parliament over two days. Speaking in the House on Wednesday (Feb 7), he said the diversity of topics discussed, spanning different sectors and age groups, highlighted a collective understanding that mental well-being cannot be compartmentalised. He also said the stigma surrounding mental health continues to be real, and is not just a societal issue but a profoundly personal one that affects individuals and families. He said Singapore must cultivate an environment that encourages everyone to seek help without fear and talk openly without shame. Dr Wan Rizal said the Government’s response to the motion, led by Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, was deeply appreciated and highly encouraging.
