White Paper on Singapore Women’s Development: Poh Li San on busting gender stereotypes at work
Mindsets about what jobs are appropriate for which gender need to shift, said MP Poh Li San in Parliament on Tuesday (Apr 5). She noted that there has been progress in female representation in “physically and mentally demanding” roles in the Singapore Armed Forces and Singapore Police Force over the years, and that more can yet be done. She also urged companies in sunrise and fast-growing sectors such as sustainability and information technology, where there is a shortage of talent, to tap on women. Ms Poh said the local media can play a big role in reshaping “archaic perceptions” of how women are portrayed in society.
