World's first combination of 2 orthopaedic procedures on diabetic foot
A combination of two orthopaedic procedures in Singapore has saved a severely infected diabetic foot from major amputation. It may just offer a new solution for future diabetic foot care. Currently, almost nine in 10 individuals with a lower limb amputation in Singapore had diabetes. Adjunct Associate Professor Chen Yongsheng, a consultant in Orthopaedic Trauma Surgery from Ng Teng Fong General Hospital, elaborates on the "Transverse Tibia Transport" surgery procedure which saved a diabetic patient's limb from amputation, and how the treatment could be improved on in future treatments of infected or compromised limbs. Lau Mingjie, a patient whose foot was saved by the surgery, talks about his recovery after undergoing the procedure.
