Yip Hon Weng on Building a Healthier SG
Can a patient who is already enrolled with a family doctor consult other general practitioners (GPs) and still enjoy Healthier SG benefits? As many elderly patients prefer to mix Western and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) treatments such as acupuncture, will the Government take this opportunity to review how TCM practitioners can be involved in community preventive healthcare? How will compliance and success under the Healthier SG plan be measured? Do the authorities intend to discourage the practice of GP-hopping and will there be penalties for either patient or GP? Are GPs adequately trained to manage chronic diseases? These were some of the issues MP Yip Hon Weng sought to clarify in Parliament on Wednesday (Oct 5). He also said he hopes that under Healthier SG, GPs can be incentivised to start end-of-life care planning with their patients.
