Zaqy Mohamad on safety in the marine sector
The authorities will ramp up safety enforcement efforts in the marine sector this year after five workplace fatalities in 2024, said Senior Minister of State for Manpower Zaqy Mohamad. He told parliament on Tuesday (Apr 8) that his ministry, together with the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and Workplace Safety and Health Council, will engage senior management of companies in the sector on the issue. MOM will also work with MPA to strengthen safety oversight of the sector. This includes tightening diving safety standards, especially on the use of proper equipment. The measures follow a safety timeout that was conducted in October last year. Mr Zaqy was replying to an MP's question.
