Singapore condemns Moscow concert hall attack, urges citizens to defer non-essential travel to Russia

SINGAPORE: Singapore has condemned the attack at a Moscow concert hall, calling the incident a stark reminder of the threat of terrorism.
Gunmen opened fire at the Crocus City Hall on Friday (Mar 22), killing more than 60 people and wounding 145 more in an attack claimed by Islamic State militants.
“Singapore strongly condemns the terrorist attack that took place in Crocus City Hall in Moscow Region, Russia,” said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) in a press statement on Saturday.
“This attack is a stark reminder of the threat that terrorism continues to pose to all countries. We extend our condolences to the bereaved families and wish the injured a swift recovery.”
There are no reports of any Singaporeans affected by the attack.
Singaporeans should defer all non-essential travel to Russia, said MFA, adding that those who are in Russia are strongly advised to remain vigilant, monitor the news closely and heed the advice of the local authorities.
They should take necessary precautions for their personal safety and e-register with MFA immediately if they have not done so.

United Nations secretary-general Antonio Guterres on Friday condemned "in the strongest possible terms today's terrorist attack", spokesman Farhan Haq said in a statement.
The White House sent its condolences to the victims of the "terrible" shooting. "The images are just horrible and just hard to watch,” National Security Council spokesman John Kirby told reporters.
Chinese President Xi Jinping "strongly condemned" the attack and sent his condolences to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Xi "stressed that China opposes all forms of terrorism, strongly condemns the terrorist attack and firmly supports the Russian government's efforts to safeguard its national security and stability”, Xinhua news agency said.
