A 22-year-old man was sentenced to seven months’ jail, after using a charger that was incompatible with his PMD battery - causing a fire in a HDB flat. In sentencing him, the judge said the offender’s negligence produced devastating consequences, and that he demonstrated an indifference to safety risks and a complete disregard for the safety of his household occupants. In ‘Destination Anywhere’, Melanie Oliveiro finds out where art lovers can view Pivoines or Peonies, a treasured oil painting by Impressionist artist Claude Monet, and one of the very first works that served as an ode to the floral beauty of his garden in Giverny, France. Catherine Kwai, founder and CEO of Kwai Fung Hin Art Gallery – the organisation that brought Peonies to Singapore – will share more facts about the 19th century painting, which can now be viewed at the gallery’s “Worlds Beyond Reality – Monet’s Legacy II” exhibition at 30 Beach Road. Kwai will also discuss the exhibition’s other artworks put out by prominent contemporary artists like the late Lalan, Ziad Dalloul, Shara Hughes and Singapore’s very own Teo Eng Seng.
