In ‘Destination Anywhere’, Melanie Oliveiro finds out what’s happening at the Kampong Glam neighbourhood for the annual Aliwal Urban Arts Festival 2026 - held every year for just one day. Chan Jia Ying, manager from Arts House Group will talk about the festival’s theme ‘Symbiosis’ and will also highlight the festival’s street culture, music, dance and visual arts events. Multidisciplinary mural artist and curator SONG will talk about the installation project he curated, ‘Heart Chamber’ which transforms a familiar walkway at Aliwal Arts Centre into a flowing, organism‑like experience with fabric artworks, soundscapes, animated visuals, and performances by 17 contributing artists.

The number of lower-income families who received help from a key government financial aid scheme fell to a five-year low in 2024. The Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) states that the fall in the numbers reflected “an expansion in the economy and labour market from 2020 to 2024”, on top of support from other government schemes.
