Blueprint For Survival
Blueprint For Survival - S1E3: Tourism Revival
"Blueprint for Survival" is a three-part documentary series showcasing crises that threatened Singapore’s survival and how rising to meet these challenges strengthened and sharpened the mettle of Singaporeans. 1985 - the first economic recession since independence, the urgent need to find a new source of water for its people and the unexpected nose-dive of a booming tourism industry were serious enough to knock Singapore off its feet. But instead of tearing the nation apart, it united the people, created a strong public-private sector partnership fuelled by a "never-say-die" spirit and the sheer willpower not to go under. In facing these dangers, Singapore was irrevocably transformed. It chartered new paths for economic and tourism development, and turned over-cautious government agencies into nimble organisations. The debates and decisions that led to these changes are vividly recounted by key players who shaped Singapore into what it is today.
