SINGAPORE — A worker died Wednesday (Feb 17) in an accident at a construction site along Mandalay Road, which the Ministry of Manpower said had “serious safety lapses”. The development was the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine campus, and the contractor is Great Earth Construction.

The MOM said the worker, 25, fell to his death when the floor crane he was operating dragged him along after it toppled and fell off the building. Another worker sustained leg injuries after being hit by debris and was sent to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

The safety lapses found by MOM at the worksite included open sides that were not barricaded and unsafe scaffolding. The MOM has issued a full Stop-Work Order to the occupier.

Mr Chan Yew Kwong, director of the Occupational Safety and Health Inspectorate, said the company will be placed under surveillance and be issued demerit points, and fined for the contraventions.
