17 new Covid-19 cases in Singapore, all imported
SINGAPORE — Singapore reported 17 new cases of Covid-19 on Thursday (March 25), all of which were imported.
In its evening update on the coronavirus situation here, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said that all but one case had no symptoms.
All 17 people had been placed on stay-home notices or isolated upon arrival here and were tested while serving quarantine.
They are:
A Singaporean woman and a permanent resident who both returned from India
A dependant’s pass holder who came from Nepal
Two work pass holders who arrived from India
Eleven work permit holders who came from Bangladesh, India, Indonesia and the Philippines, of whom seven are foreign domestic workers
One short-term visit pass holder who came from Ecuador for a work project
Overall, the number of new cases in the community, as well as those with no links to confirmed cases, both dropped from one case in the week before to none in the past week, MOH said.
The ministry also gave an update on the Covid-19 viral fragments found last Sunday after testing wastewater from the UTown Residence at National University of Singapore.
The remaining resident whose result was pending has tested negative. This means that all 438 residents do not have the coronavirus.
MOH added that the viral fragments detected in the wastewater sample were likely due to viral shedding from a recovered past infection among the residents.
UPDATE ON REMAINING CASES
The total number of infections in Singapore is now 60,253.
Of these, 60,086 people have fully recovered and have been discharged, including eight who were discharged on Thursday.
There are still 25 patients in hospitals. Of these, most are stable or improving, and none is in the intensive care unit, MOH said.
Another 112 patients are isolated at community care facilities. They have mild symptoms or are clinically well but still tested positive for Covid-19.
Thirty people have died from complications due to the disease.
