2 men arrested for allegedly cheating e-commerce platform of about S$70,000
After receiving items they bought online, two men allegedly submitted requests for refunds, claiming that they had not received the items.
SINGAPORE — Two men have been arrested for their suspected involvement in cheating an e-commerce platform of more than S$69,000, the police said, without disclosing which e-retailer it was.
In a statement on Thursday (Nov 12), they said that the two suspects — aged 23 and 24 — were nabbed separately on Wednesday and Thursday.
They had earlier received a report last Friday that several suspicious refund transactions were made on the e-commerce site.
Officers from the Central Police Division then identified the two men through follow-up investigations, which led to their arrests.
Items amounting to about S$6,000 were recovered and seized by the authorities.
Preliminary investigations showed that the two men are believed to have created different accounts to buy items from the online site.
After receiving the items, the two allegedly submitted requests for refunds, claiming that they had not received the items.
“The duo is believed to have performed close to 50 refund transactions that amounted to more than S$69,000,” the police said.
Investigations are ongoing.
If found guilty of cheating, the men could be jailed up to 10 years and fined.
