2 men arrested after roadside fight involving dangerous weapon in Tiong Bahru; screwdriver seized
SINGAPORE — Two men were arrested after they were seen engaging in a fight in Tiong Bahru on Tuesday (May 28), with a screwdriver being seized by the police.
The roadside altercation was captured in an online video. It is unclear what caused the fight.
The police told TODAY on Wednesday that they received a call for assistance at Block 54 Havelock Road at 12.05pm on Tuesday.
Two men, aged 38 and 62, were arrested for affray. The older man was arrested for voluntarily causing hurt by a dangerous weapon as well.
Both sustained minor injuries but refused to be taken to the hospital.
Affray is fighting in public in a way that disturbs the peace.
Police investigations are ongoing.
WHAT HAPPENED
In a 43-second video published on Facebook group SG Road Vigilante, the 62-year-old man in a white shirt was seen charging at the younger man, brandishing what appears to be a sharp object.
As his arms flail, the 38-year-old man, wearing a helmet and a long-sleeved shirt, tries to block the attack and kick the other man. A woman looks on at the scene.
At one point, the older man falls to the ground, but quickly gets up and readies himself for the next move.
The younger man takes out his phone, presumably to record the scene, and yells at the 62-year-old.
The older goes after the younger man again and appears to be making stabbing gestures.
The video carried a caption that read in part: "Road rage motorcyclist and driver fighting".
