SINGAPORE — A 23-year-old male motorcyclist was taken to the hospital after an accident in which his motorcycle slid under a car and burst into flames.

Video footage of the accident, which took place along Eng Neo Avenue on Saturday (Dec 28), has been making the rounds on social media and show the car gradually catching fire as its passengers are evacuated to the side of the road.

Onlookers can be seen rushing to assist the passengers, an elderly couple, away from the car. They are reported to be safe.

According to a police report filed by the driver, Mr Tan Cheng Whatt, 72, the motorcyclist, who was on the opposite lane, had skidded and hit the road divider.

He was then thrown over the road divider before he hit Mr Tan’s car, which was stationary.

Later, the motorcycle, which was already on fire, slid under Mr Tan’s vehicle. This caused the fire to spread to his car.

Meanwhile, the rider had rolled off the motorcycle and was lying on the road.

Mr Tan then alighted from the vehicle and pulled his wife, Mdm Khoo Geok Hwa, 68, out of the car.

The police, who were alerted to the incident at 6.22pm on Saturday, said the motorcyclist was conscious when conveyed to the National University Hospital.

According to a Facebook post on SG Road Vigilante, the vehicle caught fire after the motorcycle slid under the car and got stuck.

Police investigations are ongoing.
