SINGAPORE — Singapore has confirmed four new cases of Covid-19, all of them imported, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said in a press release on Tuesday (Oct 13).

The cases had all been placed on stay-home notices upon arrival in Singapore.

No infections were reported in the wider community or in the foreign worker dormitories.

This is the first time since March 25 that there were no new cases detected in the dormitories, MOH noted.

The total number of Covid-19 cases in Singapore now stands at 57,884.

Among the latest cases, three had no symptoms and were detected from proactive screening and surveillance, while one was symptomatic.

They were:

  • A 41-year-old female Singapore permanent resident who returned from India

  • A 63-year-old female short-term visit pass holder who was allowed entry into Singapore to visit a family member who is hospitalised here

  • A 31-year-old man who arrived from India and is a training employment pass holder

  • A 27-year-old male student’s pass holder who arrived from France

The 31-year-old employment pass holder served his stay-home notice at a dedicated facility upon his arrival here on Sept 25.

While he tested negative for Covid-19 on Oct 5, he began to develop symptoms on Oct 9 — the day he completed his stay-home notice.

He tested positive for the coronavirus on Oct 12 when he took a pre-departure test in order to return to India.

Between Oct 9 and 12, MOH said that the man had mostly remained at Dream Lodge Singapore hotel in the Jalan Besar area, except on Oct 9 when he visited the National University Health System (NUHS) Tower Block.

Investigations into the infection chain are in progress, and all the identified close contacts of the confirmed cases have been isolated and placed on quarantine. They will also be tested at the start and end of their quarantine period to detect asymptomatic cases.

The ministry said that for the close contacts, it will also conduct serological tests (that detect past infections) to determine if the new cases could have been infected by them.

UPDATE ON REMAINING CASES

Of the 57,884 infections reported here, 57,740 have fully recovered and have been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities, including 12 on Tuesday.

There are still 35 patients in hospital and most are stable or improving. No one is under intensive care.

Another 81 patients are isolated and cared for at community facilities. These are those who have mild symptoms or are clinically well but still test positive for Covid-19.

So far, 28 people have died in Singapore from complications due to Covid-19.
