54 new Covid-19 infections in Singapore, including 8 in community and 7 imported cases
SINGAPORE — Singapore has confirmed 54 new cases of Covid-19, of whom 47 are asymptomatic, said the Ministry of Health (MOH) in a press release on Sunday (Aug 30).
There are seven imported cases, of whom five are Singaporeans or permanent residents who returned to Singapore from Bangladesh on Aug 17, India (Aug 18 and 22), the Philippines (Aug 18) and the United Arab Emirates (Aug 8).
The other two imported cases are a work permit holder who arrived from the Philippines on Aug 18, and a dependant’s pass holder who came from Pakistan the same day.
There are seven linked community cases, among whom is a family cluster of five cases from two households who had participated in family gatherings.
Another case is a 57-year-old male employee at camera shop SLR Revolution at Excelsior Shopping Centre, which is now a new cluster.
The remaining case, a 26-year-old man, was tested as he had been diagnosed with acute respiratory infection.
There is one case in the community that is currently unlinked, as well as seven imported cases.
The remaining 39 cases are foreign workers staying in dormitories.
The total number of Covid-19 cases in Singapore now stands at 56,771.
MOH said that the number of new cases in the community has increased, from an average of two cases per day in the week before to an average of three per day in the past week.
The number of unlinked cases in the community has remained stable at an average of one case per day in the past two weeks.
Sunday saw 139 patients discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities, bringing the total who have fully recovered to 55,586.
There are currently 74 patients who are still in hospital. Of these, most are stable or improving, and none is in the intensive care unit, MOH said.
Another 1,084 with mild symptoms, or are clinically well but still test positive, are isolated at community facilities.
The death toll remained at 27.
The ministry also added two new locations to a list of places that have been visited by Covid-19 cases while they were in their infectious period:
Bank of China branch in Westgate on Aug 22 between 2.30pm and 3.30pm
Old Airport Road Food Centre and Shopping Mall on Aug 23 between 10.15am and 11am
MOH advised those who had been at these locations during the specified timings to monitor their health closely for 14 days from their date of visit.
They should see a doctor promptly if they develop symptoms of acute respiratory infection (such as cough, sore throat and runny nose), as well as fever and loss of taste or smell, and inform the doctor of their exposure history.
