7 men nabbed over Serangoon slashing incident, divers search for weapon in reservoir

SINGAPORE — One of the suspects for a slashing incident at Serangoon Road was brought to Lower Peirce Reservoir on Thursday afternoon (July 26) to assist with investigations, as divers entered the waters to search for a samurai sword discarded after the attack.
This came after police said in the morning that they arrested seven men, aged between 17 and 28.
They allegedly attacked a 27-year-old man with a kitchen knife and a samurai sword at Serangoon Road on Wednesday.
TODAY understands that six of them were arrested in a house at Sin Ming Industrial Estate on Thursday morning, including the suspect who was present at the reservoir. Another man was nabbed at Corporation Road.
It is believed that they are being investigated for rioting with a dangerous weapon.
Their relationship with the injured victim is not known.
The suspect who was brought to the reservoir is believed to have wrapped the samurai sword in an orange cloth and threw it into the reservoir on Wednesday afternoon while he was drunk.
Two divers were seen entering the waters in an attempt to retrieve the weapon.
The police were alerted to the incident at 202 Serangoon Road around 2.20pm on Wednesday. Investigators found the victim with slash wounds on his body, the back of his head, as well as his arms and legs.
The victim was conscious when he was taken to the Tan Tock Seng Hospital. TODAY understands that he is in stable condition.
The attackers fled in a rented silver Nissan car, and left behind a kitchen knife and an ATM card at the scene.
