SINGAPORE — Two accidents involving large vehicles occurred separately today (Oct 21), with one causing a massive jam along the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE).
In the PIE case, an accident involving a car and a tipper truck resulted in the larger vehicle tipping on its side, spilling a load of sand that it was carrying on the expressway near the Kallang Way exit towards Changi.
No one was injured in the accident, said the police who received a call about the accident at about 1.20 pm.
The truck’s occupants, an Indian in his 30s and a Chinese man in his 50s, did not want to be sent to the hospital even though an ambulance had been dispatched to the site.
Traffic police had to close off two lanes in order to direct traffic away from the accident site.
One of the drivers affected by the ensuing traffic jam was business development manager Alvin Chua, 38. In a call to MediaCorp’s Hotline at about 3.30pm, Mr Chua said he had been stuck in the jam for nearly half an hour.
At around the same time, another accident involving a truck pulling a trailer occurred at the Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE) towards Woodlands, near the Mandai exit.
Few details of the accident were available, but in a call to the MediaCorp Hotline, taxi driver Tay Kian Choon, who is in his late 50s, said he noticed that the truck driver was injured and seemed to be bleeding from his head.
Police told TODAY that they were unable to comment on the case, as it was being handled by the General Insurance Association of Singapore, and would be “settled internally”.
