SINGAPORE — Air quality for tomorrow (Oct 30) is expected to be in the moderate range, said the National Environment Agency (NEA).

In its evening update today, NEA said that prevailing winds are forecast to be weak and blowing from the northeast or east. Thundery showers are also forecast for Singapore between midnight and pre-dawn hours tomorrow.

Singapore experienced fair weather today, with air quality in the moderate range. NEA says the current conditions are expected to continue for the rest of the day.

As at 6pm today, the 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) was 55-66, in the moderate range, while the three-hour PSI stood at 56. The one-hour PM2.5 was 10-31 µg/m3.

A total of 66 hotspots were detected in Sumatra today, compared to 62 and nine hotspots yesterday in Sumatra and Kalimantan, respectively.

“There has been a significant reduction in the extent of the haze in Sumatra and Kalimantan due to shower activities in the region. However, haze was still observed in parts of Sumatra,” said the NEA.

Given the air quality forecast for the next 24 hours, NEA said that everyone can continue with normal activities. Persons who are not feeling well, especially the elderly and children, and those with chronic heart or lung conditions, should seek medical attention.
