SINGAPORE — All the 205 bus services operated by SBS Transit will be wheelchair-friendly by Monday (Aug 21).
From that day, the remaining nine bus routes, which were previously not able to take wheelchairs, will be redesignated as wheelchair accessible, the transport operator said on Friday. These are Services 8, 23, 46, 81, 160, 170, 191, 401 and 655. The wheelchair-accessible services also include Chinatown Direct, City Direct, Express, Fast Forward and Nite Owl services.
SBS Transit chief executive officer, Mr Gan Juay Kiat, said: “We are committed to making public transport inclusive for our commuters, including those on wheelchairs.”
“From Monday ... passengers-in-wheelchairs (PIWs) can simply board any of our bus services to get to where they want to go. It will open up more destination options for them and they will find it easier, more convenient and affordable to get around on public transport.”
Mr Gan added that SBS Transit will be continue to work closely with the Land Transport Authority as it upgrades more infrastructure to “make them barrier-free to enable PIWs to board at all bus stops and bus interchanges”.
