SINGAPORE: A 15-year-old boy has been arrested for allegedly robbing a convenience store at knifepoint.

Police on Tuesday (Sep 19) said they were alerted to a case of armed robbery at a convenience store along Tampines Central 8 on Monday at about 5.30am.

The teenager allegedly robbed the victim with a knife and demanded the victim hand over cash amounting to S$827 (US$606) and cigarettes worth S$181.20.

Through ground enquiries and with the aid of police cameras and closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, officers established the identity of the teenager and he was arrested within 10 hours of the report.

The stolen cigarettes and S$30 in cash were subsequently recovered, said the police.

The teenager will be charged in court on Wednesday with the offence of armed robbery. If found guilty, he could face a jail term of between three to 14 years and at least 12 strokes of the cane.
