Man to be charged with murder after neighbour found dead in Bukit Batok HDB flat

SINGAPORE: A 65-year-old man will be charged with murder after his neighbour was found dead in a Bukit Batok flat on Saturday (Jan 6).
Police said they received a call for assistance at about 8.20am from a residential unit.
When they arrived, they found a 43-year-old woman lying motionless inside the flat, where she was subsequently pronounced dead by paramedics.
A five-year-old boy, who is the son of the deceased, was taken conscious to the hospital.
The man was arrested at the scene. A knife believed to be used in the incident was seized.
Police said investigations are ongoing.
When CNA arrived at Block 460B, Bukit Batok West Avenue 9 late Saturday morning, there were several police vehicles, including a crime scene investigation van.
Police officers were seen around a second-floor unit of the block. The suspect, wearing a white personal protective suit and a face mask, was escorted into a police car at about 11.25am.
Residents on the second and third floors who spoke to CNA said they did not hear any commotion.
"The police didn't tell us anything," said a woman in her 60s who did not want to be named. Another resident in her 30s said the block has always been quiet and that the incident is quite shocking.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it received a call for assistance at about 8.25am.
It added that a person was pronounced dead at the scene by an SCDF paramedic, while another was taken to the National University Hospital.
The suspect will be charged in court on Sunday with murder. The offence of murder carries the death penalty.
