SINGAPORE: An elderly man was charged on Sunday (Jan 7) with the murder of a woman in Bukit Batok.

Quek Eng Hock, 65, is accused of killing the 43-year-old woman on Saturday. The victim cannot be named due to a gag order.

Police were called to a flat at Bukit Batok West Avenue 9 on Saturday at about 8.20am.

Officers arrived to find the woman lying motionless inside the flat and she was subsequently pronounced dead by paramedics.

A five-year-old boy, who is the son of the woman, was taken conscious to the hospital.

The man was arrested at the scene. A knife believed to be used in the incident was seized, said the police on Saturday.

Quek is set to return to court on Jan 26.

When CNA arrived at Block 460B, Bukit Batok West Avenue 9 late Saturday morning, there were several police vehicles, including a crime scene investigation van.

Officers were also seen around a second-floor unit of the block.

The suspect, wearing a white personal protective suit and a face mask, was escorted into a police car at about 11.25am.

The offence of murder carries the death penalty.
