Bukit Merah View cluster grows to 73 as community cases triple in past week
SINGAPORE — The Covid-19 cluster at 115 Bukit Merah View Market and Food Centre has grown to 73 cases, at the end of a week that saw the number of community cases triple to 108 from the previous seven-day tally.
Three more infected persons were linked to the Bukit Merah View cluster on Sunday (June 20) and they were among nine new community cases, five of which have not been traced to any previously reported infections.
The three were:
A 63-year-old Singaporean woman who works as a warehouse assistant at SMC Manufacturing Singapore
An 86-year-old Singaporean man who is a retiree. He was tested for Covid-19 on June 18 as part surveillance testing for visitors to 115 and 116 Bukit Merah View
A 35-year-old Vietnamese man who works as a stall assistant at Tiong Bahru Yong Tao Hu on 56 Eng Hoon Street. He was quarantined on June 15, the same day two of his colleagues tested positive
The other linked case is an 81-year-old Singaporean woman who developed a cough and fatigue on June 18 but did not seek medical attention. She was detected when she was tested on June 19 as part of surveillance testing for visitors to 115 and 116 Bukit Merah View.
There were five unlinked cases:
An 83-year-old Singaporean woman who is a retiree and a family member of the 81-year-old Singaporean woman. She, too, fell ill on June 16 but did not seek medical treatment until June 18
An 80-year-old Singaporean woman who is a retiree. She was taken to Singapore General Hospital for an unrelated medical condition on June 19
A 22-year-old Malaysian woman who works as a dental assistant at Q&M Dental Surgery at Redhill MRT Station. She was tested for as part of surveillance testing for those who work in the Redhill Close area
A 24-year-old Singaporean man who works as a financial consultant with insurance company Prudential
A 52-year-old Singaporean man who works as an engineer at the Housing and Development Board. He was tested as he had visited the Bukit Merah View area
MOH also recorded two imported cases on Sunday. One is a Singaporean who returned from Saudi Arabia and the other is a foreign domestic worker from Indonesia.
Overall, the number of new community cases has jumped from 36 in the week before to 108 in the past week.
The number of unlinked community cases has also increased from 15 in the week before to 21 in the past week.
Singapore's Covid-19 tally is now 62,414.
A total of 62,042 people have fully recovered, including 19 who were discharged on Sunday.
There are 142 patients who are still in hospital, most of whom are in stable or improving condition but one is in critical condition in the intensive care unit.
Another 196 people with mild symptoms, or who are clinically well but still test positive for the coronavirus, are isolated at community facilities.
Thirty-four people have died from complications due to the disease.
