SINGAPORE — It was a sky full of rain clouds for Coldplay fans in Singapore as they made their way to the band’s concert at the National Stadium on Wednesday (Jan 24), with concertgoers recounting their experiences on social media of getting drenched and wading through flooded walkways.

The Meteorological Service Singapore’s website showed that showers in the area around the concert venue began in the late afternoon and grew heavier as people began streaming in for the show, which began at 8.30pm and was the second night of the British rock band's gig here.

In a video by TikTok user “corlisse.l”, she is seen using a poncho with her two friends as they scamper towards the stadium.

In her caption, she wrote: “Kicked off the #coldplaysingapore concert under the pouring rain but ended with a sky full of stars.”

Singaporean news presenter Glenda Chong also posted her experience of getting caught in the rain on the way to the show.

“We braved a wet wet wet Wednesday just to watch this band play. Enjoyed ourselves so much,” she wrote on Instagram.

The unrelenting rain reportedly lasted throughout Coldplay’s two-hour set.

Although most of the estimated 55,000 concertgoers in the enclosed stadium were sheltered from the downpour, those in the west zone were somewhat exposed because they were seated near an open section of the roof.

TikTok user “16rosesaredead” claimed that she was under the rain throughout the concert, sharing a video that showed rainwater falling from the roof of the stadium just behind her.

Another video by TikTok user “krystalles” showed people seated in the upper decks of the west zone taking cover with ponchos and umbrellas.

A line of text on the video read: “You people doing okay back there with the thunder?”

A number of fans who were seated in that area confirmed that they were fine: “We were definitely not okay (when there was lightning) but glad to report that we did not fall sick!”

@krystalles That downpour literally lasted from before till after the concert, comes with a side of thunder too, I felt it even from halfway inside lol #coldplay #coldplayday2 #coldplayconcert #musicofthespheresworldtour #coldplaysingapore #rain #catsanddogs ♬ Funny video "Carmen Prelude" Arranging weakness(836530) - yo suzuki(akisai)

Others claimed that the weather added a calming vibe to the concert and that they enjoyed dancing in the rain.

The hardest part for some fans, however, was when they had to trudge through flooded walkways caused by ponding in the area, as they made their way home after the show.

Several social media videos showed concert attendees shuffling through ankle-deep water as they walked along the sheltered walkway from the stadium to Kallang MRT Station. Many had chosen to remove their shoes and walked barefoot, while others did not mind getting their footwear soaked.

Reflecting on the experience, one online user joked: “That concert experience (was) a bit too immersive.”

Another quipped: “Coldplay ends with cold feet.”

With two shows done, Coldplay have four more to go in Singapore as part of the band's longest Asian stint in their Music Of The Spheres world tour.

Their first performance here on Tuesday was marred by complaints about technical issues and poor sound quality, in addition to fan disappointment over the lack of fireworks, which had been one of the highlights of previous Coldplay concerts overseas.
