Singapore

Consult registered TCAS members

27 Jan 2016 04:15AM

While chiropractors are registered professionals in countries such as the United States, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, Malaysia and Thailand, practitioners in Singapore are not. The profession is currently self-regulated here.

Ms Janet Ruth Sosna, sub-committee officer of The Chiropractic Association Singapore (TCAS), said: “TCAS has approached the Ministry of Health (MOH) about regulation several times and we have always been told it will be done sometime in the future, and in the meantime to self-regulate.”

The association tries to maintain high standards for the profession here, by encouraging chiropractors to adhere to a code of practice, ethics and advertising guidelines developed in line with international practices. There are currently about 100 chiropractors in Singapore, of which 22 are registered members of TCAS.

Ms Sosna’s advice for people seeking chiropractic care here is to consult chiropractors registered with TCAS, which has strict requirements for membership. “Seeking care from an association-registered member means that care will be based on individual need, and not a business model to improve profits,” said Ms Sosna.

Consumers with disputes arising from misleading advertising and sale of treatment may approach the Consumers Association of Singapore, said the MOH.
