Covid-19: Singapore reports 1 new cluster, 2 unlinked locally transmitted cases
SINGAPORE — Singapore on Wednesday (July 7) recorded five new locally transmitted cases of Covid-19, two of which have no links to past infections.
The other three were linked to earlier cases, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said in a statement. All three were detected while in quarantine.
In its nightly update on the coronavirus situation here, MOH identified the formation of one more Covid-19 cluster in the community, bringing the number of active clusters here to 23.
The number of cases in each cluster ranges from three to 94.
The latest cluster is linked to Case 64599. MOH said on Wednesday that three new locally transmitted cases were part of this cluster, along with the original infected person.
There is no other information on Case 64599 — in line with the ministry’s revised approach to its daily update with a focus on big picture trends rather than details of every infection.
Seven of the 12 new cases reported on Wednesday were imported. Of the seven, five were detected upon arrival in Singapore and two fell ill during isolation or while serving a stay-home notice.
The total number of coronavirus infections here is now 62,652.
Overall, the number of new cases in the community has gone down from 68 in the week before to 24 in the past week.
The number of cases with no links in the community has also decreased from nine in the week before to seven in the past week.
“The seven-day moving average number of all linked community cases and all unlinked community cases are 2.4 and 1.0 respectively,” MOH said.
HOSPITALISED PATIENTS
There are 90 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised.
Of these, seven require supplemental oxygen while another three are in critical condition under intensive care. All three under intensive care are aged above 60 and not vaccinated.
Among the seven who need oxygen aid, two were partially vaccinated. Four of the seven are aged over 60, two are between the ages of 40 and 60 and one is aged between 19 and 39.
“There is continuing evidence that vaccination helps to prevent serious disease when one gets infected,” MOH said.
“Over the last 28 days, 23 local cases required oxygen supplementation, were admitted to intensive care units or died. Twenty are unvaccinated, three are partially vaccinated and none was fully vaccinated.”
VACCINATIONS
Some 5.93 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines had been given to about 3.73 million people as of Tuesday, the ministry said.
More than 2.2 million people have received their second dose and completed the full vaccination regimen.
