SINGAPORE — DBS Bank customers can now withdraw money from Australian bank Westpac’s network of 3,000 ATMs in Australia.

This is part of a partnership, announced today (April 22) between Westpac and DBS, where each bank’s customers will be able to access the other bank’s ATMs without having to pay any fees, except for a 3 per cent foreign transaction fee. Previously, DBS customers would have had to pay a S$5 per transaction for overseas withdrawals, but under the partnership with Westpac, this charge is waived.

Additionally, DBS customers will also have access to withdraw funds, fee-free from Wespac's partner banks, namely St.George Bank, Bank of Melbourne and BankSA (Bank of South Australia).

DBS’ Deputy Group Head of Consumer Banking and Wealth Management, Domenic Fuda said this partnership would “benefit customers planning on travelling to Australia, one of the most sought after travel destinations in the region for many Singaporeans”.

“For our Singaporean customers living, studying and working in Australia, this will provide fee-free ATM access to their DBS accounts,” Mr Fuda added in a joint DBS and Westpac media release today (April 22).

Mr Jason Yetton, Westpac’s Group Executive for Retail & Business Banking, pointed out that some 300,000 Australians travel to Singapore each year, with around 30,000 living here. He added that similarly, a large population of Singaporeans — around 50,000, with 7,300 enrolled in Australian universities — live in Australia.

He said: “Customers from both countries will now be able to enjoy the ease and convenience of two of Asia’s most prominent ATM networks.” There are more than 1,100 DBS and POSB ATMs in Singapore.
