SINGAPORE — A 40-year-old man was arrested by the police after crashing his car near the Fountain of Wealth in Suntec City, stopping a few metres away from the glass barricade around the fountain that is one floor down.
He was reportedly driving a silver Toyota Camry towards the roundabout when the car mounted the kerb and hit an anchored signboard on the pavement. The driver had no visible injuries and the car had minimal scratches.
Peter Wang, 26, who works around the area, told TODAY that the man was unconscious before the police arrived, and a few passers-by had tried to wake him up. He is believed to have consumed cough syrup.
Police said they received a call at about 5.30pm informing them of the accident at Temasek Boulevard. An ambulance was called and traffic was diverted from the accident site.
Officers were later seen escorting the man from the scene at around 8.10pm, arresting him for driving under the influence of intoxicating substances. Investigations are ongoing.
