E-scooter rider, 19, charged with injuring boy at Yishun basketball court

SINGAPORE — A 19-year-old electric-scooter rider was charged in court on Wednesday (Nov 27) with colliding into a 12-year-old boy in March last year.

Brendon Lim Chun Hsien, a Singaporean, is accused of causing hurt to Asriel Ang Woon Tik by a rash act after knocking him down at a basketball court near Block 838 Yishun Street 81.

The accident happened at about 6pm on March 28 last year.

Lim was allegedly riding his e-scooter at about 20kmh and could not slow down in time when Asriel came into his path. Asriel received immediate medical attention.

The collision left him with bruises and abrasions on his cheek, as well as bleeding around one of his upper teeth, which was later removed.

In a press statement on Tuesday, the police said they were alerted to the accident at about 11am the day after it happened.

Officers from the Ang Mo Kio Police Division had identified Lim and arrested him. The police did not specify when they made the arrest.

Lim is out on S$2,000 bail and will return to court on Dec 18.

If convicted of a rash act causing hurt, he could be jailed for up to a year, fined up to S$5,000, or both.
