First of two suspects charged over Geylang death

SINGAPORE — A 34-year-old man was charged on Tuesday (July 11) with one count of voluntarily causing grievous hurt, which allegedly resulted in the death of Lim Leong Tat, who was found in a back alley in Geylang Lorong 24A on Sunday morning.
Bangladeshi Rana Sohel had allegedly punched Lim, 42, in the face and slammed his head on a pavement with three other accomplices sometime between 7am and 7.43am on Sunday.
TODAY understands that Lim had injuries on his head as well as his upper body.
He was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene at 8.05am.
Rana and a second Bangladeshi man were arrested on Monday.
Rana is the first to be charged in relation to this case. If convicted, he is liable for a jail term of up to 10 years and/or a fine, with caning.
