SINGAPORE — Ahead of the polls on Sept 11, here are some key facts and figures to take note of:

1) There will be 89 parliamentary seats up for grabs, two more than currently.

3) Three new SMCs, Bukit Batok, Fengshan and MacPherson, are on the electoral map, along with two new GRCs, Jalan Besar and Marsiling-Yew Tee

4) Photographs of candidates will appear on ballot papers for parliamentary elections for the first time.

5) Independent candidates who have no party logo can choose from 15 approved symbols that will appear beside their names on ballot papers. These symbols include a ceiling fan, an ear, and a laptop.

6) In its handbook for candidates for GE2015, the Elections Department advised candidates against “negative campaigning practices based on hate and denigration of opposing candidates ... or statements that may cause racial or religious tensions or affect social cohesion”.

7) Candidates will be allowed to have a representative observe the transport of ballot boxes to counting centres.
