SINGAPORE — Hazy conditions and reduced visibility are expected to persist tomorrow (Oct 26), with the possibility of some deterioration if denser haze from Kalimantan is blown in, said the National Environment Agency (NEA).

In an evening update, NEA said the 24-hour PSI for the next 24 hours is expected to be in the mid to high sections of the unhealthy range.

As at 6pm today, the 24-hr PSI was 125-148, while the 1-hr PM2.5 was 99-131µg/ m3.

Singapore experienced hazy conditions today, with reduced visibility due to haze spreading westward from Kalimantan being blown in by the prevailing easterly winds. The current conditions are expected to persist for the rest of the day, said NEA.

A total of three and 212 hotspots were detected in Sumatra and Kalimantan today, respectively, although the low hotspot count for Sumatra was due to partial satellite pass.

“Widespread haze is still persisting in parts of central and southern Sumatra as well as Kalimantan. Some haze from Kalimantan continues to spread to our surrounding region.” said the NEA.

Given the air quality forecast for the next 24 hours, NEA advised that healthy persons should reduce prolonged or strenuous outdoor physical exertion. The elderly, pregnant women and children should minimise prolonged or strenuous outdoor physical exertion, while those with chronic lung or heart disease should avoid prolonged or strenuous outdoor physical exertion. Persons who are not feeling well, especially the elderly and children, and those with chronic heart or lung conditions, should seek medical attention.
