SINGAPORE – One of Australia’s airlines, Jetstar, has cancelled flights to and from Bali for today. This is “due to the volcanic ash cloud from Mount Rinjani in Lombok, Indonesia” said Jetstar on its website.
“Conditions in the vicinity of Denpasar Airport in Bali are unsafe for flying,” it said. Jetstar also released a list of the flights that have been cancelled. Flights affecting travellers to and from Singapore include JQ117 (Singapore to Bali) and JQ116 (Bali to Singapore).
“We plan to provide a further update as soon as possible regarding flights scheduled for tomorrow (Nov 4),” the airline added. “We will resume flying as soon as it is safe to do so and we will update customers if poor flying conditions lead to further cancellations. At this stage, we’re advising customers NOT to travel to the airport for flights to and from Bali and to closely monitor their flight status.”
Another Australian airline, Virgin Australia also cancelled its flights today.
“We continue to monitor the situation closely,” Virgin said in a statement. “The safety of our guests and crew is our highest priority, and we will keep customers updated as new information becomes available.”
As at 3.30pm, other airlines are still operating out of Bali.
This is the second time in recent months that ash has affected Bali flights – in July, travellers were held up following the eruption of Java’s Mt Raung. Several airlines including flights from SIA, Tiger Air, Jetstar and AirAsia were affected then.
