M1 extends data-roaming scheme to more markets
SINGAPORE — M1 yesterday announced the extension of its value-added service that allows mobile subscribers to use its existing mobile-data bundle for data roaming overseas.
Known as the M1 Data Passport, the service is now available in five more destinations: Bangladesh, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan. These markets are in addition to the six that were first announced in July — Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the United States, Saudi Arabia and Sri Lanka.
Customers who wish to use the service have to pay a monthly rate of S$10 per country and a one-time activation fee of S$2. Multi-SIM users will also have to pay an additional S$5, said M1.
Those who exceed their data bundles will pay a local excess-data usage rate of S$10.70 per GB, capped at S$188.32 per month, added the telco.
Rivals Singtel and StarHub have data-roaming packages, but these are in addition to subscribers’ existing data bundles. StarHub users can choose to enable the RoamEasy Daily service, for which the telco charges a flat fee of S$10 per 100MB daily, or sign up for monthly plans that offer bundled data on top of their local mobile plans.
Singtel has its DataRoam Saver Plans, for which rates vary according to the different markets, as well as a monthly add-on value-added service priced between S$5 and S$388 a month. CHANNEL NEWSASIA
