Man, 34, charged with murder of 40-year-old woman in Woodlands
SINGAPORE — A 34-year-old man was on Friday (Jan 18) charged with the murder of a 40-year-old woman who was found dead in a Woodlands flat past midnight on Thursday.
According to court documents, the accused, M Krishnan, a Singaporean, allegedly killed Mallika Begum Rahamansa Abdul Rahman in an apartment at Block 693D Woodlands Avenue 6 between 10pm on Wednesday and 1.37am on Thursday.
The police said in a statement on Thursday that the two know each other.
TODAY understands they were in a relationship.
When the police arrived at the murder scene shortly after receiving a call at 1.34am, Mallika was lying motionless inside a room. Paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene.
Krishnan had fled the scene by then but the police managed to apprehend him hours later as his identity was “quickly established”, the police said.
Krishnan will face the death penalty if convicted.
He was not represented by a lawyer on Friday. No bail was granted, so he will continue to be remanded at the Central Police Division.
His case will next be heard in court on Jan 25.
