SINGAPORE — Marine Parade Neighbourhood Police Centre (NPC) has rolled out the Community Policing System (COPS) - a transformation of the NPC policing model that brings the police even closer to the community.

As of today (April 5), more than 4,400 HDB blocks and multi-storey car parks have police cameras installed. According to the Singapore Police Force (SPF), they are on track to have police cameras in all 10,000 HDB blocks and multi-storey car parks by the end of 2016.

Marine Parade NPSC’s roll out marks the full transition of all 35 NPCs to COPS. Another initiative which emphasises strong community-police partnership, X-SCAM @ MP, was also launched today.

Police say strong community-police partnership is critical in preventing, deterring, and detecting crime in Marine Parade, so it is important for Marine Parade NPC to embark on this series of intensive outreach efforts.

One area of concern is cyber crimes. As more people are now more IT-savvy, internet users are also more likely to be exposed to online scams.

Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong who attended the event also took the opportunity to highlight the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew’s contribution’s to developing the Singapore Police Force. CHANNEL NEWSASIA
