SINGAPORE: More than 2.7 million Singaporeans will be eligible to vote in the next General Election, the Elections Department (ELD) said on Monday (Jul 22) following a revision of the voter rolls.

There are a total of 2,715,187 registered electors - an increase from the figure of 2,709,407 voters eligible to cast their ballots in the 2023 Presidential Election.

In the last General Election in 2020, there were 2,651,435 registered electors.

The revised list was certified on Jul 21 and will be available for public inspection from Jul 23, the ELD said in a media release.

Singaporeans may check their particulars in the registers electronically via Voter Services at the ELD website, or under “My Profile” on the Singpass mobile application.

Those who are unable to so do electronically can check their particulars in person at community centres and clubs or ServiceSG Centres near their homes. They can also do so at ELD’s office by making an appointment at their website or calling 1800-225-5353.

Singaporeans who are overseas and are unable to check their particulars online may do so at any Singapore overseas missions serving as overseas registration centres.

It is not too late for people to apply to have their names restored to the voter roll if their names were removed from the registers for failing to vote in a past election. They may do so at the ELD website.

"They are encouraged to apply early," said the ELD, noting that names cannot be restored from the date a writ for an election is issued until after that election's Nomination Day if it is not contested or until after its Polling Day if a poll is to be taken.

REGISTRATION AS AN OVERSEAS ELECTOR

Overseas Singaporeans whose names are listed in the Registers of Electors may register to vote by post or in person at one of the 10 overseas polling stations.

The 10 overseas polling stations are in Beijing, Canberra, Dubai, Hong Kong, London, New York, San Francisco, Shanghai, Tokyo and Washington DC.

To be eligible to register as an overseas elector, overseas Singaporeans would need to have lived in Singapore for an aggregate of at least 30 days within the three-year period prior to the date of registration as an overseas elector.

Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, who was sworn in on May 15, had directed the ELD to revise the voter rolls and complete the revision by Jul 31.

Singapore's last General Election was on Jul 10, 2020, and the next one must be held by November 2025.
