More wet weather for Singapore expected in second half of September
SINGAPORE — The wet weather in Singapore is forecast to continue for the rest of September, with more rainfall expected in the second half of the month compared to the first half.
In a weather update on Friday (Sept 16), the Meteorological Service Singapore (MSS) said that the prevailing southwest monsoon conditions are forecast to persist over the island and surrounding region.
During this period, low-level winds are expected to continue blowing from the southeast or southwest.
In the next fortnight, short-duration thundery showers can be expected between the late morning and afternoon on most days.
In the second half of the next fortnight, the convergence of winds over the region may influence the development of Sumatra squalls — an organised line of thunderstorms that form over Sumatra or the Strait of Malacca — and bring widespread thundery showers and gusty winds over Singapore on a few mornings.
“Overall, more rainfall is expected in the second half of September 2022 compared to the first half of the month.
“The overall rainfall for September 2022 will likely be near normal over most parts of the island,” MSS said.
During the second half of this month, the daily temperature on most days is forecast to range between 24°C and 33°C, MSS said.
“There may be a few warm days, particularly in the first half of the fortnight, when maximum temperatures could reach around 34°C.”
