Nearly 130 PMDs impounded in May: LTA
127 PMDs were impounded by the LTA's active mobility enforcement officers.
SINGAPORE — Users of personal mobility devices (PMDs) beware. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) is watching.
Just last month, a total of 127 PMDs — such as e-scooters and hoverboards — were impounded by the agency’s active mobility enforcement officers, it said in a video on its Facebook page on Monday (June 10). In response to TODAY’s queries, LTA said that in addition to the PMDs, another 30 power-assisted bicycles (PABs) were seized.
The authority said that the reasons for impounding the devices include:
-
Use of non-compliant PMDs and PABs
- CNA Games

Out of the 325 offences recorded in May 2019, 151 were due to users riding on the wrong paths or PMDs being used on the road. There were also 92 cases of users whose devices did not comply with LTA’s regulations.
LTA told TODAY that the remaining 82 offences included speeding and reckless riding, as well as registration-related offences such as the declaration of false details during device registration or displaying an obscured registration or identification mark.
The enforcement was jointly carried out with the Singapore Police Force and National Parks Board across the island, including areas such as Pasir Ris, Toa Payoh, Punggol, Orchard Road and the Central Business District.
According to LTA’s website, compliant active mobility devices — which include PMDs, bicycles and power-assisted bicycles — must have a maximum weight of 20kg, a maximum width of 70cm and a maximum motorised speed of 25km.
“To ensure public safety, our (officers) will continue to carry out their duties every day, day and night,” said LTA in its video.
